Ottawa Public Library Foundation
The newly formed Ottawa Public Library Foundation was established by the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) Board of Directors in 2002. The Foundation's priority is to develop and implement new fund-raising initiatives. The Foundation then allocates funds raised through private-sector donors, partners and sponsors to the OPL in order to enhance library collections, facilities, programs and services.
Bibliothèque municipale de Rouyn-Noranda – La Fondation (Québec)
A main objective of the Rouyn-Noranda Public Library Foundation is to help the library acquire four items in its collection per Rouyn-Noranda citizen by 2005, bringing the library closer to the Canadian average of six items per citizen. In four years’ time the Foundation has raised $460,000.
Bibliothèque municipale Richelieu de La Sarre – La Fondation (Québec)
The Richelieu de La Sarre Public Library Foundation focuses its fundraising activities on the educational, cultural and recreational needs of La Sarre residents. The Foundation is proud to note that all donated dollars go toward library needs, such as new additions to the collection and a new reading room.
Brooks Library Foundation (Alberta)
The aim of the Brooks Library Foundation (BLF) is to raise funds for special purchases for the Brooks Public Library. It was created in the late 1980s, coinciding with an expansion of the Brooks Public Library. Recent additions to the library include a new building, burglar alarm and book security system. These additions were made possible through funds totalling $374,850 raised by the BLF.
Calgary Public Library Foundation (Alberta)
The Calgary Public Library Foundation (CPLF) began operation in 2000 raising $100,000 that year to purchase new books and materials. The Foundation’s mission is to raise funds to help the Calgary Public Library provide outstanding library services to the community. Present areas of focus for the Foundation include building new branches and supporting library services, such as literacy and children’s programs.
Cobourg & District Library Foundation (Ontario)
The Cobourg & District Library Foundation (C&DLF) was incorporated in 1992. In less than three years, a major fundraising campaign raised $500,000 to construct the new library building. It was completed in 1995 and officially named the C. Gordon King Centre. The C&DLF continues to raise funds through donations to support the Cobourg Public Library and the Historical Society.
Colchester-East Hants Regional Library Foundation (Truro, Nova Scotia)
The Colchester-East Hants Regional Library Foundation is a registered, public foundation that seeks private sector support to maintain and enhance its library system. The Foundation was established to ensure that the libraries in the system can continue providing excellent services. The Foundation's first annual Giving Campaign raised more than $30,000 in 5 months.
Kitchener Public Library Foundation (Ontario)
The Kitchener Public Library Foundation (KPLF) was established in 1994 to support the development of the city's public library services. Thanks to funds raised by the KPLF, the Homework Centre was officially opened on February 21, 2004. It provides senior elementary and high school students with a quiet place to study and tutorial assistance.
New Brunswick Public Libraries Foundation
Established in 1997, the New Brunswick Public Libraries Foundation (NBPLF) collects funds to develop public library collections in New Brunswick. on April 21, 2004, the annual Adopt-a-Book campaign was launched, encouraging donors to purchase a designated book for the library. Donors receive bookplate recognition and can purchase the selected book at a discounted price. The NBPLF is responsible for raising funds for over 60 libraries and 4 bookmobile stops.
Peterborough Public Library Foundation (Ontario)
The year 1995 saw the creation of the Peterborough Public Library Foundation. Currently, the main goals of the Foundation include establishing an endowed fund and raising funds to enhance Children's Services and Lifelong Learning.
Stratford Public Library Foundation (Ontario)
The Stratford Public Library Foundation (SPLF) was established in 1998 to raise funds to assist the Stratford Public Library Board. one of the SPLF's major initiatives is the Public Library on Wheels (PLOW) program. Its main focus is literacy outreach and is supported in part with proceeds from the SPLF's CD, Our Love is Here to Stay.
Toronto Public Library Foundation (Ontario)
Since its inception in 1997, the Toronto Public Library Foundation (TPLF) has raised over $10 million to support the Toronto Public Library. Foundation funds enhance the library's collections, technology, and programs. TPLF support comes from well-known organizations such as the Toronto Star, which donated $2.5 million to upgrade the library's Newspaper Room, and The Starbucks Coffee Company, which sponsored a Performing Arts Lecture Series.
Vancouver Public Library Foundation (British Columbia)
The Vancouver Public Library Foundation (VPLF) was established in 1997 to enhance the Vancouver Public Library programs and services through fundraising. The Foundation provides financial security to the library, above and beyond core government funding, through individual and the private sector support.
West Vancouver Memorial Library Foundation (British Columbia)
Since June 1986, the West Vancouver Memorial Library Foundation has been collecting and distributing funds for the West Vancouver Memorial Library. The Foundation’s activities are managed and carried out by a volunteer Board of Directors, supported by additional volunteers. One of their noted campaigns is the annual Croquet Tournament.
Windsor Public Library Foundation (Ontario)
In 1998, the Windsor Public Library Foundation (WPLF) was formed in partnership with the Great Windsor Community Foundation. Since its creation, the WPLF has been run by a staff of volunteers so every dollar raised goes directly to the library. The Community Museum and the Community Archives are a part of the Windsor Public Library and as such, both benefit from the Foundation’s support.
Winnipeg Public Library Foundation (Manitoba)
The Winnipeg Public Library Foundation (WPLF) was established in 1996 to cultivate support and raise funds for innovative Winnipeg Public Library projects. The WPLF’s current major initiative is the Millennium Library project. on February 25, 2003, the Foundation launched its community campaign to raise $3 million towards the project. Among many the improvements featured in this new facility will be increased Aboriginal resources and enhanced multimedia capabilities. The Millennium Library is slated for public reopening this fall.
